Violence at Howe Community Park Results in Four People Injured in the Arden-Arcade Area of Sacramento
Sacramento County deputies are working a violent incident that took place on the evening of April 18 at the Howe Community Park area as law enforcement were clearing an unauthorized event of hundreds of attendees.
Prior to the Shooting
Law enforcement were first dispatched to the park around half past six in the evening after receiving reports of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. Soon after, a follow-up call was made mentioning a possible fight unfolding within the park grounds.
A law enforcement helicopter flew over the park but came back with no confirmation of a fight. Even so, deputies found that a massive group had packed into the park without any permit or approval.
When the Shots Rang Out
Law enforcement personnel began the process of clearing the park by setting up around the park's perimeter and using their vehicle PA systems instructing the hundreds present to vacate the area. Around 15 minutes were provided for the crowd to leave.
As the crowd was being cleared that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition rang out. The shots sparked chaos as hundreds ran. Law enforcement wasted no time in searching for victims.
Those Who Were Hit
In total, four individuals were identified as having gunshot wounds. Those injured — made up of one woman and three men all reportedly in their 20s at the time of the incident — were transported to local Sacramento hospitals. Doctors and nurses reported that two were treated for serious injuries, one of the four had moderate gunshot wounds, and one victim's wounds were minor. According to authorities, all four victims survived and were stable.

Crime Scene Evidence
The primary shooting scene was determined to have been concentrated on the Cottage Way corridor next to the local Home Depot on the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Law enforcement investigators found more spent casings on Cottage Way. Round impacts were also found in the wrought iron perimeter fencing near the nearby Home Depot. These findings showed that a shooter had been discharging rounds toward the south from the Cottage Way area in the direction of the Home Depot. That Home Depot location was secured under a brief lockdown during the incident. Crime scene personnel worked tirelessly for hours.
